The head of the museum reportedly paid $ 135 million for the painting .This would be the highest price ever paid for a painting. However, this big price is not the only reason the painting is special. It has a complex and unusual history. A century ago, Adele was a young woman living in Austria. She was smart, beautiful and rich. Her husband, Ferdinand, loved her very much. He asked the famous artist Klimt to paint her portrait in 1907. Mister Klimt painted a wonderful portrait. The woman in his painting looks mysterious and beautiful. The background of the painting is a rich gold. Many experts said the painting looks like pictures painted by Egyptian artists thousands of years ago. Klimt had created four other paintings for the family. In 1938, the Nazi Germans invaded Austria. Being Jewish, Ferdinand quickly fled to Switzerland. He wrote that the Klimt paintings should be given to the surviving members of his family. It was too late, however. The Nazis had already seized all the family’s property, including the valuable paintings. Maria is a member of the family who escaped from Austria. Inl998, the Austrian government passed a law requiring museums to return such art works to the families that owned them before World War Two. So Maria went to court to gain back her family’s paintings. Last month, the family sold the painting “Adele One” to Ronald Lauder, who is the founder and president of the Neue Galerie , a small museum in New York. All Klimt paintings will be shown at the Neue Galerie for two months, starting next week. 56.The text mainly tells us why a 1907 painting by Klimt was _____. A. sold for a record of$135 million B. returned to the museum C. stolen by the Nazi Germans

The word “pub” comes from “public house”. In older times, the term signified someone’s house that had been opened to the public. A pub is truly the neighborhood’s living room. There is no table service in English pubs. Order and pay at the bar. The barman or barmaid is very aware whose turn is next. Signal your readiness to make a purchase by holding money in your hand. All purchases are in cash. Not many pubs take credit cards. British pubs used to allow smoking, but not anymore. England banned smoking in pubs in 2007. While some parts of the UK have been slower to follow suit, some pub managers allow people to continue to smoke outside in the beer garden. But this is at the discretion(自由裁定权) of the pub manager and should not be expected as a general rule. Proper British pub etiquette (礼节)requires people to offer to buy a replacement drink if they have accidentally spilled someone else’s drink. The person may well refuse and not care much about the spilled drink. But it is still polite to make mention of it and you will be expected to at least offer to replace the drink that you have spilled. There is no tipping in an English pub! To offer a tip is to display your unfamiliarity with pub etiquette. If you have a particular helpful barman or barmaid, you may offer him or her a drink. He or she will then simply charge you for one additional drink and drink the beverage, but probably will wait until near closing time to do so. When the barman or barmaid rings the big bell, closing time has arrived. The publican rings the bell twice. First time, it means “last call”. Second time, it means the bar is closed. 60 In what kind of British pub would you probably smoke? A. A pub which has a beer garden B. A pub whose manager allows the customer to smoke C. A pub which is the neighborhood’s living room D. A pub whose manager is a smoker 61. You _____should when you spill someone else’s drink by accident. A. make an issue of it B. apologize for it C. buy him a drink D. offer to pay for it 62.If you tip the barman or barmaid, it shows _____. A. you don’t know about British pub etiquette B. the barman or barmaid is helpful

Scientists have discovered that the drug helps prevent heart disease by stopping fat building up in the arteries(动脉).It is the first time that the fundamental cause of heart disease has been targeted. Current treatments focus on using drugs to reduce cholesterol (胆固醇)levels and blood pressure. The vaccine can cut the build up of fat in arteries by up to 70 percent, according to tests by researchers at Lund University in Sweden. The fatty deposits cause arteries to narrow, meaning the body has to work harder to pump blood, and can lead to a heart attack. Prof. Peter Weissberg, the British Heart Foundation medical director, said the vaccine was 'Very promising". Different ways of using the vaccine are being developed and could be licensed within five years, the Frontiers in Cardiovascular Biology conference at Imperial College London was told. Cardiovascular (心血管的)disease is the biggest killer in Britain, causing one in three deaths; 191,000 each year. There are 2.7million people with heart disease and their treatment costs 3.2 billion pounds a year. Prof. Jan Nilsson, professor of experimental cardiovascular research at Lund University, acknowledged that treatments such as blood pressure drugs reduced the risk of heart disease by 40 percent, but added: "It should not be forgotten that 60 percent of cardiovascular events continue to occur.” He said: "These treatments are far more like drugs: to be effective they'd need to be given long term. The vaccine treatment in particular is likely to be expensive, so you could probably only afford to give it to high-risk populations rather than everyone.” The team created a vaccine that reduced fat build-up by 60 to 70 percent in mice. The resulting injection is waiting for permission to start clinical trials. A second vaccine has been created as a nasal spray. A trial on 144 heart disease sufferers is under way in the U.S. and Canada. 72.According to the passage, heart disease is caused by _____ A. cardiovascular disease B. high cholesterol levels C. high blood pressure D. fat accumulation in arteries 73. What’s Prof. Peter Weissberg5 s attitude towards the vaccine? A. negative B. positive C. critical D indifferent 74. Which of the following is TURE? A. Clinical trials of the injection vaccine have been carried out. B. A vaccine reduced fat build-up by 60 to 70 percent in humans. C. Blood pressure drugs cure 40 percent heart disease completely. D. In the future, the vaccine will be probably put in use. 75. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The development of the vaccine research. B. Different ways the vaccine can be used. C. The reasons why the vaccine works. later, these phones were released in Australia, Europe and the United States. A market research shows that there has been a sharp rise in worldwide sales from 80 million mobile camera phones in 2003 to 1.14 billion by 2013. Camera phones have not only been used for entertainment. In Sweden, a grocer snapped a shot of a robber and downloaded the photograph to his computer, which allowed the police to catch the suspect. In Italy, the same thing was done when a shop owner snapped pictures of two robbers. In Wales, doctors send photos of X-rays to consult a more experienced specialist about medical treatment for their patients. In Japan, the police have set up a website for citizens to send pictures of suspicious activities. Now, newspaper reporters can use camera phones to take pictures of important events. They can then send the pictures to their newspaper office. As the quality of camera phone pictures increases, we can expect to see camera phones used more and normal cameras used less. More people are using their camera phones to take pictures of their trips, or just small unexpected things that happen in their daily lives. They can then send these pictures to friends anywhere. However, camera phones have also been used to commit crimes. To prevent spying, these phones are not allowed in government buildings in the United Kingdom. Some car companies don’t allow their employees to use their phones because they want to prevent some employees watching new car models and sensitive information secretly. In Italy, to prevent dishonest voting, people are not allowed to use mobile phones while they vote. It appears that although there are many advantages to the new technology, we still have to be careful. Ⅵ.书面表达 (满分 25 分) (One possible version) Recently, “clear your plate” campaign is more and more popular in society, which advocates saving against wasting. The campaign draws our attention to wasting on campus. Some students are noticed to throw away a lot of food in the canteen. As is often the case, some lights are still on with nobody in classrooms. What’s more, many a student spends much money buying unnecessary items. As far as I am concerned, it’s high time that we fought against wasting. Here are my suggestions. Firstly, I think our school should carry out various activities to arouse students’ awareness of saving. Secondly, relevant rules and regulations are supposed to be made to punish those who waste things. Most importantly, we should form the habit of saving from now, from ourselves. It is everyone’s duty to save resources.

Last Friday a storm hit two villages destroying fourteen houses. Seven others were so badly damaged that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows. One person was killed, and nine were badly injured and taken to the hospital. A number of other people received small injuries. Altogether over two hundred were left homeless as a result of the storm. A farmer said the storm began early in the morning and lasted over an hour. He was in the kitchen with his wife and his children when they heard a loud noise. A few minutes later their house fell down on top of them. They managed to climb out but then he saw that one of his children was missing. He went back inside and found him safe but very frightened. A woman said that her husband had just left for work when she noticed that her house was shaking. She rushed outside immediately with her children. There was no time for her to take anything. A few minutes later, the roof came down. Soldiers went to the area to help the people in trouble.
