Now that I am no longer young, I have friends whose mothers have passed away. I have heard these sons and daughters say they never fully appreciated their mothers until it was too late to tell them. I am blessed with the dear mother who is still alive. I appreciate her more each day. My mother does not change, but I do. As I grow older and wiser, I realize what an extraordinary person she is. How sad that I am unable to speak these words in her presence, but they flow easily from my pen. How does a daughter begin to thank her mother for life itself? For the love ， patience and just plain hard work that go into raising a child? For running after a toddler, for understanding a moody teenager, for tolerating a college student who knows everything? For waiting for the day when a daughter realizes how wise her mother really is? How does a grown woman thank a mother for continuing to be a mother? For being ready with advice (when asked) or remaining silent when it is most appreciated? For not saying, “I told you so”，when she could have said these words dozens of times? For being essentially herself — loving, thoughtful, patient, and forgiving? C Kids undergo a large amount of pressure and stress during their school exams, which can often become quite difficult for them. It may be the first experience of stress, at this level, they have ever experienced and therefore quite frightening. Yes, you may say that it’s all a part of growing up and therefore good lessons for them to learn, and to an extent I agree with you. However, it’s important to learn how to prepare for life’s challenges so that they aren’t overwhelming or scary and so that we are able to manage them the best we can. Here are some tips you can use during your kids’ exam time. Break their revision plan down into small parts. Doing this will help transform what once seemed like a huge impossible task into a more manageable one. Help them arrange properly so that the subjects they like the least (perhaps ones that require more time and effort) are worked on first; once they are out of the way, it will help reduce the worry. Plan week on week to make sure they are on track. Ticking items of a list each week will help them to feel good about themselves and their progress. Create rewards for all the ticks-a favourite TV programme, a delicious snack, an hour’s surfing the Internet, computer games or whatever it was that they enjoy the most. This will encourage them to carry on and make them feel good. Think of strategies on how to deal with exams calmly so their anxieties don ’t get the better of them. Talk about times in their lives when they had been successful at something and look at the qualities they used to get them there - determination, persistence, hard work, patience, positivity, dedication - discuss how they can apply these skills to their exams. Acknowledge that if they do their best that is good enough. Ensure they realize that this period in their lives will pass and that exams are only a temporary time in their lives; nothing can and does last forever. Ensure they keep their eyes on the prize: enjoying their long summer holiday when the exams are finished; giving them something to look forward to will help to motivate them and provide a positive end in sight. 51. According to paragraph 1, it's important to learn how to prepare for exams because__________ A. it is a part of growing up. B. it is the first experience of stress. C. it helps kid reduce stress and do better. D. it is important to get a good mark in exams. 52. Which subjects should be worked on first? A. Their best ones. B. Their favourite ones. C. Who are the intended readers of the passage? A. Kids. B. Parents. C. Educators. D. People in general. D Future history books might record that we were robbed of the use of our eyes. In our hurry to get from one place to another, we fail to see anything on the way. Air travel gives you a bird’s-eye view of the world — or even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your way. When you travel by car or train, you are moving so quickly that you do not see the countryside clearly. Car drivers are forever thinking about going on and on： they never want to stop. Is it the great motorways that attract them, or what? And as for sea travel, it hardly deserves mention. It is perfectly summed up in the words of the old song：“I joined the navy to see the world, and what did I see? I saw the sea. ” You mention the place names in the world like El Dorado, Kabul and someone is sure to say “I’ve been there” meaning, “I drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else. ” When you travel at high speeds, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time looking forward to arriving at some other place. But actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. You want to move on again. By traveling like this, you suspend (终止) all experience; the present stops being a reality: you might just as well be dead. The traveler on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. For him traveling and arriving are one and the same thing： he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. He experiences the present moment with his eyes，his cars and the whole of his body. At the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical tiredness. Satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travelers. 56. What does the author think of the travelers mentioned in Paragraph 1? A. They get a good view of the landscape. B. They make full use of their eyes. C. They fail to see the scenery with their heart. D. They are eager to see everything on the way. 57.The author uses the words of the old song to tell us____ . A. sea travel is a good way of seeing the world B. joining the navy can realize our dreams C. travelling by sea hardly helps us enjoy the scenery D. what he gained after joining the navy
58. Why does “the present” mean “nothing” when we travel at high speeds? A. Because we change our aims all the time. B. Because we are eager to go to another place. C. Because we are looking forward to the future life. D. Because we cannot enjoy the experience we have had. 59. What will the author most probably advise us to do? A. To go hiking in the mountain. B. To travel at a high speed. C. To travel by car or train. D. To go around the world. 60.What would be the best title for the passage? A. Different travelers B. The use of eyes C. Ways of traveling D. The survey shows that the general health of middle school students is declining year by year, with more people having the problem of overweight. One of the reasons could be that they have a heavy load in their study so that they seldom do physical exercises. What’s more, they don’t do labor work like housework and they don’t have a balanced diet. To solve the problem, experts advise that we should not chat on line so often so that we can have enough sleep and we should do sports for at least one hour a day. Besides, we’d better eat more fruits and vegetables and refuse junk foods. 第二节读写任务（共 1 小题，满分 25 分） A little girl asked her busy father how much he earned an hour. Then she borrowed some money from her father and asked him to sell one hour of his time to accompany her. After reading the passage, I’m lost in thought. In my opinion, however busy parents are, they should spare time to accompany their children. My parents are such persons who are always willing to spend time with me. I can well remember that three years ago, my parents gave up their once-in-a-life-time opportunity of visiting the UK and accompanied me to the new senior school. So nervous did I feel in the new environment that I was at a loss what to do. Fortunately, with their company and encouragement, I overcame my fear and fit in well. It was the first time that I had felt so close to my parents. From my personal experience,I can draw a conclusion that parents’ company is like the lighthouse, with the guidance of which we will go forward in the right direction and achieve our goals.
