第二节 阅读理解(共 10 小题:每小题 2 分,满分 20 分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项 A、 B、 C、D 中,选出最佳选项,并填写在答题 卡上。 A I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent. I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows (誓约)mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends. And they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today. So here’s what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the nest promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house.

Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an email. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted. It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours and our minutes. It is so easy to exist

instead of to live . I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all. I learned to love the journey, not the destination, I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned. By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face, Learn to be happy, And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion(激 动)as it ought to be lived.

21. The best title of this passage probably is A. Love your friends C. Don’t waste time

.

B. Live a real life D. Be a good mother and wife

What’s the author ’s attitude toward work? A. Do it well to serve others .

B. Earn enough money to make life better C. Try your best to get higher position and pay D. Don’t let it affect your real life.

B Beijing: Beijing is to spend up to US$20 billion to change the Chinese capital into a 21st century one for the 2008 Olympics. The government managed to host the 2008 games. The general aim is for Beijing to have the same environmental standards as Paris, London or Washington by 2008. Hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent to pipe natural gas to the city’s homes, taking away dirty coal burning gradually while 60,000 buses will be changed to liquefied gas. The money also will be used for relocating the polluting factories and building green areas. By 2008 around 90 percent of Beijing’s waste will be treated, compared to only 40 percent at present. Olympic officials realize the city has a long way to go to match the environmental standards of such cities as Paris, Toronto, Istanbul and Osaka. City officials have already announced that around 50 large projects are being dealt with to improve traffic jam and cut down pollution. They include construction of Beijing’s first light railway, a 40.5 kilometer line which is expected to be completed in 2005. Beijing, besides, plans to build an 82.25-kilometer-long subway to add to the existing 53 kilometers. Nine major roads will be rebuilt or widened. Beijing also plans to build a 70-meter-wide green area along the waterways to protect water quality as well as increase the green areas. 25. The government will pipe natural gas to the city’s homes in order to ________. A. solve the problem of being short of fuel B. bring down the cost of daily life C. reduce the pollution of our capital D. keep up with the development of modern society 26. 27. From the last three paragraphs we know the fact that _________.

A. lengthening the existing 53-kilometer subway is among the 50 large projects B. a 40.5-kilometer line will be added to Beijing’s fist light railway C. the length of the subway will be up to 135.25 kilometers in 2005 D. a 70-meter-wide green area will supply us with enough water 28. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. The environment of London is better than Toronto B. In the first paragraph “a 21st century one” refers to a modern and advanced capital C. Beijing is badly polluted mainly by coal burning D. Liquefied gas is more expensive than petrol

第三节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为多余 选项。 For healthier kids, put away the car and walk to school Only a quarter of Canadian kids walk or bike to school and that’s not enough, according to a new “report card on physical activity for children an youth.” Active Healthy Kids Canada(AHKC) is a Canadian charity that encouraged children and their parents more exercise. Their report found that only 24 percent of 5 to 17-year-olds in Canada use “active transportation” to get to school. 31 On the other hand, their parents were twice as likely to

walk to school when they were children.

32

This year ’s theme, “driving,” looked at how much exercise kids are getting when

they travel to and from different places near their homes. There are many things the report listed as possible reasons why children wouldn’t use active transportation. 33 Many children live too far away from their school to be able to get there

by walking or hiking. Another reason is that sometimes driving is easier. 34

A third reason is safety. Many parents prefer not to let their children walk to school, especially if they are young. AHKC has some suggestions about how children can work with their parents to make active transportation a bigger part of their life. One is for parents to drive close (but not all the way) to school, and have children get out and walk the remaining distance. Another is for parents to take turns looking after and walking with children so that they can travel safely. The easiest and best thing to do is for parents to tell their children to try to walk or bike to different places whenever possible-not just when they are going to school. A. And children can tell their parents to walk more, too! B. The biggest one is the distance between schools and homes. C. “Active transportation” means not using cars, trains or buses. D. Keep a journal of when you went and how long each walk took. E. Parents may drop their children off at school, on their way to work. F. Every year in its report card, AHKC focuses on one aspect of healthy living. G. In Canada over 30% of children and youth are considered overweight or obese(肥胖的). 35

It does harm not only to their health, especial to their eyes, but also to their studies. Comparing with online games, many traditional games, like hide-and-seek, benefits kids mentally and physically. They were ever popular to several generations, which not only learned

something valuable but also had fun playing the games. Therefore, the games are dying away now. Personally, I think teachers and parents should take measure to limit their children’s Internet time. Let children to know the harm of online games and the benefits of traditional games. Help children judge the healthy and unhealthy games. What’s more, we should often organize events for children in which traditional games played. Dear Sir or Madam,
